IMPORTANT UPDATE - Apr 24 - Melting snow

INFORMATION ALERT


Melting snow along with the frost/thaw cycle is causing poor road conditions throughout the MD. 

If you have concerns and have infrastructure at risk of water, the MD does provide sand bags and sand (you are responsible for filling them).

If you are aware of roads that are affected by water or conditions have deteriorated, please contact Public Works at: 403-652-2390

Public Alerting Direct to Your Cell Phone

Alerting continues to evolve and find new ways to provide alerts to Canadians. Effective April 6th 2018, the most serious alerts will go directly to wireless devices (compatible smartphones, some tablets, and potentially other electronics) in an impacted area.

ROAD BAN (75%) IN EFFECT

ROAD BAN IS NOW 75%

Effective Immediately - Road ban is now 75% on all Municipal roads!

Due to the extreme winter and rapid spring thaw conditions, the M.D. of Foothills is implementing a maximum 75% load ban on all municipal roads including gravel unless stated lower. Please note this is the first time gravel roads have been included in a road ban. The ban will be lifted as soon as road conditions allow.

Agricultural users will be allowed to apply for a permit for road use. Permits are no fee and will require your name, 911 address and route to the nearest Provincial Highway.

GOOD NEWS - High Speed Internet Update

Internet Update - Good News for those West of Millarville!



The area is a recipient of $217,000 from the Connect to Innovate federal government grant to improve internet in partnership with a company called Rigstar.

Watch your mail if you are in the Kew area for information either from Rigstar or ABnet about internet expansion out that way. They will be doing some community outreach and public engagement.

Rural Crime Meeting Update

Over 300 in Attendance to Discuss Rural Crime

13 Member panel of representatives from: MP, John Barlow's office,
Solicitor General's Office, RCMP (Local detachments and regional office,
Foothills Protective Services, the three local chapters of the Crime Watch
and others.
Obviously Rural Crime is an important topic within our area. Over 300 Foothills residents were in attendance at the Foothills Centennial Centre to ask questions of the 13 member board assembled.

Takeaway of the Evening

The main message of the evening was, all of us: the Federal Gov, Provincial Gov, Municipal Gov, Crime Watch organizations and all our residents are responsible and
working together at improving communication and protection to PREVENT #RuralCrime.

If you haven’t joined your local Rural Crime Watch, make sure you do. If you are the victim of crime, no matter how small...,
REPORT IT to your local RCMP detachment as every bit of information is essential. 

In the western part of the MD, our Crime Watch Branch is called the High Country Rural Crime Watch (HCRCW).  Details on membership can be found at http://www.hcrcwa.ca/ or click the link at the top right hand corner of this webpage.

The best thing to do is get connected and get engaged with your community and the HCRCW will help you do that.
