UPDATE #3 Grande Prairie, AB: Grande Prairie RCMP have located the stolen vehicle and have taken three people into police custody. (Yesterday) afternoon at approximately 4:15 p.m. Grande Prairie RCMP, with the assistance of a tip from the public and an RCMP helicopter were able to locate the stolen pick up at a forestry products mill south of the city of Grande Prairie. A foot chase ensued behind the mill but police were able to take three people into custody a short time later. No charges have yet to be laid and RCMP will provide an update when more details become available.

AMBER ALERT – CHILD ABDUCTION – GRANDE PRAIRIE February 25, 2014 APR Grande Prairie, Alberta – A 7 month old girl named Addison has been abducted from the Royal Oaks area of Grande Prairie, Alberta between 12:30 and 1:00 p.m. today. This child was abducted by a person that stole a truck from a residence. Addison is 7 months old and was wearing pink pants, no shoes, a pink tunic, with blue and pink hearts on it. They were last seen in a 2010 light brown two tone Dodge truck, Alberta licence NED 553. The truck has built in tool boxes on the box and a pink sticker in the back tailgate that says ” baby on board” The truck has black steel rims and is a four door. The truck departed in an unknown direction. Do not approach the suspect. Please contact the police if you have any information. If you see this vehicle please call 911 or your local police agency immediately.

What is AMBER Alert? Every province in Canada has an AMBER Alert Program. The AMBER Alert Program is an innovative  province wide program which partners the province's law enforcement community, media broadcasting agencies and the public in locating abducted children. AMBER Alert is a comprehensive plan which provides a coordinated and rapid response to child abductions throughout your province.  It provides the public with immediate and up-to-date information about a child abduction by widespread media broadcasts and solicits the public's help in the safe and swift return of the child. It is a voluntary, cooperative program between police services and local broadcasters to send an emergency alert to the public when a child has been abducted and it is believed that his/her life is in grave danger. An AMBER Alert can only be activated by a specified person who is an authorized user.

Congratulations Millarville D.A.R.E. Grads - February 10/14

February 10, 2014

I had the honor of being part of the Graduation Ceremonies at the Millarville School this morning where the Grade 5 students from Mr. Beacom's class received their certificates and medals for graduating from the D.A.R.E. program.

If you aren't familiar, the program (more information at http://darecanada.com/) helps give students the tools to deal with a number of different topics, including: bullying, alcohol, drugs, peer pressure, etc...

A few of the students had an opportunity to present on what they had learned.  The presentations were both educational and entertaining and demonstrated just how much the students learned through the curriculum.

This is a program I wish I had the opportunity to have gone through at their age and I am so glad that it is being so well received.  Thanks so much to all of those involved and thanks for including me!

New M.D. Disaster Recovery Coordinator

We are pleased to announce that Geoff Carpenter has been appointed to the position of Disaster Recovery Coordinator, effective February 1, 2013. 

We look forward to Geoff helping us in the recovery process from last year's flooding as well has help us to implement strategies for flood preparedness in the future.

Flood Relief Update - December 11, 2013

We have received some good news today in council as we received a letter from Minister of Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, Diana McQueen for the approval of $800,000 to go towards our first flood project on the Three-Point creek.  Hopefully this is the first of many approvals in the very near future!

AAMDC - Update - November 15, 2013

I have just returned from the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts & Counties (AAMDC) fall convention.

It was the opportunity to meet a number of councillors from all around Alberta along with many of the Honorable Ministers for the Province of Alberta.

It was great to be able to put faces to names and allow them to do the same for me. 

I believe it was a very productive 4 days having meetings with Ric McIvor, Minister of Transportation, Doug Griffiths, Minister of Municipal Affairs, Kyle Fawcett, Associate Minister for Recovery & Reconstruction, Dave McGee, Alberta Environment and many others.

I was able to share your concerns with many and ensure that they know who we are down here in the Foothills.

I believe I was able to establish good relationships with many that will work in our favor moving forward to getting things accomplished.

Lest We Forget - Update - November 11, 2013

Today we remember all of our fallen soldiers that have sacrificed so much for us. 

I had the honor of representing the M.D. of Foothills for the Remembrance Day Ceremony at the Oil Fields High School in Black Diamond.  I was touched by the amazing turnout of residents that packed the gymnasium to pay tribute.  We owe so much to so many so it was nice to see how many people took the time out of their schedules to attend.

The ceremony was a great tribute and I thank you for inviting me to attend.

Flood Relief Update - November 5, 2013

Last night we had a meeting with Hugh Pettigrew, Deputy Director of Public Works and Engineering for the M.D. of Foothills and some of the engineers working on the flooding issues in our area at the Millarville School.  It was nice to see that we are making progress.  

The engineers presented a plan that includes 4 phases the first hoping to take place in December.  

There were a few items that I mentioned last night that I also wanted to remind you of:

1. The DRP (Disaster Recovery Program) deadline is November 30/13.  Details can be found here: http://alberta.ca/2013DisasterRecoveryPrograms.cfm
2. DRP office hours in Black Diamond are Wednesday, Nov 13, 1pm - 8pm at the Black Diamond Town Office, 301 Centre Ave W
3. To be kept up to date, a few residents are creating a website for the community to have a one-stop location for you to go to.  For more information feel free to email me and I will forward you on to them.
